Work Alignment forRealizing the Promise of WorkWork Alignment for Realizing the Promise of Work – for work of lasting value – is a culmination of McFletcher’s work with client projects since 1974. Work Alignment addresses the human need to achieve fulfillment in work activities as well as the work environment's need for performance and society’s need for products and services of lasting value. From the perspective of an organization responding to the demands of customers and stakeholders and drawing upon supplier resources, being in alignment means the various parts working collaboratively to reinforce each other’s contributions that meets a common purpose and produces positive results for all. Aligned work occurs when people, the work they do,the environment within which they work and those whom they serve – in relationship to each other – fulfill a shared purpose in a principled and productive manner. Dialog-Based Realizing the Promise of Work BookAs the winds of change sweep over places of work around the world, we authors feel an urgency to share where, when and how to use Work Alignment as both a strategy and a series of processes to link work environments and their people together in a collaborative exploration of the positive possibilities in today’s emerging workplace. The Work Alignment Framework for Realizing the Promise of Work, illustrated to the left, provides a visual view of the relationships necessary for obtaining aligned work of lasting value. The Framework heading represents the theme for this book, with arrows to indicate the shifting workplace from the established work structures of the Industrial Society to the evolving interactive processes of the Information Technology Era. Its three core components, book sections – the Workplace, the Work Environment and the Workforce – are shown as separate entities coming together for integrated results to yield work of lasting value. This Framework serves as a conceptual and visual guide throughout the book. The purpose of this book, therefore, is to involve you in the exploration of how work is evolving from established vertical structures to interactive processes to Realize the Promise of Work. It demonstrates principles and practices which enable work to be more satisfying through its design and practice for both producer and consumer. Book Sections and Chapters
